Radnor to Star in New NBC Pilot
Updated March 23, 2003

Josh Radnor ’96 is still in the spotlight. He spoke at Kenyon on January 23, giving a talk entitled “What Have I Done?!? Acting in the Real World.” In addition to recent appearances in Six Feet Under and ER, he is set to star in a new Universal improv comedy called Everyday Life. The series is created and co-produced by Rob Reiner, and will star Radnor and Mary Gallagher as a newlywed couple, both psychologists, who have a practice with Radnor's character's parents and sister, all of whom are therapists. Christen Nelson, Rob Reiner and Mercedes Ruehl will also star. If the pilot gets the thumbs up from the network, the series could be on this September. Josh offers his "thanks to Professor Fenigstein for that Intro Psych course freshman year..."

Master Plan Moves Forward
March 15, 2004

The first draft of the campus master plan, intended to be what President Georgia Nugent has called a “creative vision” of the future of college, was selectively released at the end of February. The plan, guided by architect Graham Gund ’63, has drawn considerable comment from both the college and the town. For example, faculty and students expressed fondness for the former faculty homes that house some of the departments when it was suggested they be phased out. Local merchants also seem to be anxious about the potential impact of the plan on village businesses.

Here are a few highlights. In order to preserve the walking character of campus, some housing may be moved closer to the center of campus, and parking lots may be moved farther away. Businesses in the village would be encouraged to move toward the main streets, and a significant redesign of Farr Hall is recommended. The art department will likely be moved toward the center of campus, and a new quadrangle near Chalmers Library is proposed for academic and administrative buildings. However, the departmental houses will likely be preserved, albeit possibly moved to new locations. Green spaces, like the one by Ascension, will be preserved, and others will be created from poorly used spaces and smaller parking lots.

The plan is expected to be presented to the Trustees in April, after which time it will be released to the community.

Kenyon Swimming Extends the Legend
March 14, 2004

It’s already been another exceptional year for Kenyon swimming. Yesterday, the women’s team captured their 20th national Division III title in 21 years, led by seniors Beth Galloway ’04 (right) and Agnese Ozolina ’04 (who represented Lativa in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics). The team won with only 14 swimmers (instead of the full roster of 18). Galloway was selected as NCAA DIII Swimmer of the Year. The Ladies are the winningest team in women’s sports in any NCAA division.

On March 18-20, the men’s team, the most successful program in all of collegiate sports, will defend its title, aiming to achieve a remarkable 25 consecutive national crowns. Check back to see how Jim Steen’s team does in St. Peters, Missouri, this week.

Last November, Alison Rowatt ’03 (left), now a medical student at Vanderbilt, was named NCAA Woman of the Year. This is the first time that a DIII athlete has taken that honor. Rowatt was a summa cum laude molecular biology major, was on three national title winning teams (including one she captained), and won three individual national titles of her own, among many other honors in both academics and athletics.
